Air France strike over but negotiations continue
The two-week long strike by Air France pilots has come to an end. A union spokesman said the decision to end the strike in order for negotiations to "continue in a calmer climate", Reuters reports.
Ths strike has been hugely damaging for the loss-making airline which has faced intense competition from low-cost rivals. The dispute hit Air France to the tune of €20m (£15.6m) a day.
Pilots decided to take industrial action over Air France's plan for a Transvia unit with difference employment contracts to the established units.
On Wednesday, French transport secretary Alain Vidalies announced the airline would not expand Transvania. The French government owns 16 per cent of the airline.
On Saturday, the carrier said it would be operating only 45 per cent of its scheduled flights on Sunday. Air France has argued the union's demands will damage its competitiveness.
