Brits will consume media for nearly 10 hours a day this year, an increase of six minutes from 2014.

A report by Zenith Optimedia found that Brits will spend 583 minutes a day consuming media, from newspapers to web media, a 12 per cent rise form 2014.

The rise has been prompted by a boost in media consumption on mobile devices, which is on course to rise by 30 per cent this year.

Internet consupmtion will rise 9.8 per cent a year worldwide in the years to 2017.

Time spent reading newspapers fell by just three per cent in the UK in the last four years, compared to a quarter worldwide.

Jonathan Barnard, head of forecasting at Zenith Optimedia said: “People around the world are clearly hungry for even more opportunities to discover information, enjoy entertainment and communicate with each other, and new technology is supplying these opportunities.”
