Westminster Station shut over (false) fire alarm

Westminster Station has been evacuated after a fire alert, but once again it has turned out to be a false alarm. 
 
A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman told Morning Wire three engines attended the scene – two from Soho and one from Lambeth – after receiving reports of an automatic fire alarm sounding. 
 
However there was no fire, and the crews will be leaving the scene shortly. 
 
The station was shut around 2:30pm this afternoon, but so far the lines that run through – Jubilee, Circle and District – appear to be unaffected. 
 
Jubilee and Circle lines are both running as normal, and although there are severe delays on the District Line this is because of a signal failure at Dagenham East.

This is the second time this week a Tube station has been shut over what turned out to be a false alarm. On Monday, South Kensington was evacuated and the entire Circle Line brought to a standstill after a security alert. 
 
Emergency services are on high alert after the attacks in Tunisia, France and Kuwait last week. 
 
And up to 1,000 members of the emergency services and soldiers have been carrying out a major anti-terror exercise dubbed Operation Strong Tower in London this week.
