Johanna Konta prize money earnings surge past £250,000 despite loss to Venus Williams
Britain's Johanna Konta lost to Venus Williams at the Wuhan Open today, to bring to an end a remarkable run of form that has helped her earn almost £250,000.
The 24-year-old won 21 of her last 22 matches heading into the quarter final clash, banking £220,000 in the process to increase her career earnings by 39 per cent.
In the previous round against world No2 Simona Halep, Konta recovered from being 5-1 down in the final set a to win 6-3 3-6 7-5 to guarantee herself $52,430 (£34,683) in prize money from the tournament.

In the last four months, the Australia-born player has won two titles and produced her best-ever Grand Slam performance at the US Open by reaching the fourth round.
The run is set to push her into the world's top 50 when new rankings are unveiled next week and has seen her leapfrog Heather Watson into the British No1 spot.
Konta has made over £284,000 in prize money in 2015 – the vast majority of which has been earned in the last four months – 52 per cent of her total career earnings of £554,000.
