This is the UK’s most stressed out city (and it’s not London)
If Londoners think they have a hard time unwinding, they should try living in Newcastle.
The northern city came bottom in a survey looking at the amount of time people have to relax outside of work hours, with 28 per cent of its residents saying they don't even manage to find five hours of “me-time” in the average week.
Birmingham had the second lowest relaxation levels, with 26 per cent saying they had five hours or less, while London fell into third place with 23 per cent. Leeds and Manchester were in fourth and fifth place.
In terms of how Britons like to spend their relaxation time (when they can get it), there were some consistent trends across regions. First of all, it turns out we are a bath-loving nation, with half of all people questioned saying this was one of their favourite ways to de-stress.
But the number one relaxation method was watching TV, with 63 per cent saying they regularly did this.
Robin Auld, head of marketing at Topps Tiles, which conducted the research, said: “With it being National Stress Awareness Day this week, we must remember how vital it is to our state of mind to have some time out from our often demanding lifestyles.
It’s shocking to see just how much potential relaxation time the public is potentially missing out on every week, and it certainly seems we need to take a step back and indulge in some me time.
