EU referendum: British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) and Confederation of British Industry (CBI) put pressure on David Cameron ahead of EU summit
Britain's biggest business groups are putting pressure on Prime Minister David Cameron today as he heads to Brussels for a two-day meeting of European Union leaders.
British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) director-general John Longworth said the summit “may prove a tipping point” in Cameron’s efforts to secure EU reforms.
“Many business leaders are judging the EU referendum debate on the results the Prime Minister delivers,” he said. “Clarity on safeguards, sovereignty, a better single market and a balanced approach to migration are urgently required – so that businesspeople and the UK public can make up their minds.”
Confederation of British Industry (CBI) director-general Carolyn Fairbairn, meanwhile, said “pushing forward the EU reform agenda is a real priority” and warned more work needed to be done to ease EU regulations on smaller British firms.
