Business fights back against the BAFTAs and BRITs with PwC’s 30th annual PLC Awards
You can take your BRITs, Oscars, BAFTAs and Golden Globes. The Capitalist spent this festival season partying with bosses and politicians at the PLC Awards. As last night's host, BBC's Kate Silverton, declared: "They've got nothing on us. We know how to party!"
As it was the 30th anniversary of the awards ceremony, and London has already been inundated with the BRIT and BAFTA Awards, event sponsors PwC went all out to entertain, even bringing in William Hague for what can only be described as stand-up comedy.
The night ran like a well-oiled machine. London Stock Exchange chief Nikhil Rathi, PwC board member Stephanie Hyde and political wit Hague were among those making speeches, but fortunately for the audience, Hague said: "We run a tight ship, so sadly there's no time for acceptance speeches."
Congrats to Greggs chief Roger Whiteside, who picked up the baker's Turnaround of the Year gong. We suggested that "Turnover of the Year" would've been better, but were promptly shut down by Flathill chairman Ian Restall for such a terrible pun.
