Canary Wharf’s Crossrail Place gets international acclaim, picking up a gong at Mipim’s annual awards ceremony
Who says Canary Wharf is dull and grey? It may be known in the UK as the City's younger sibling, but the Docklands has made big waves with property chiefs worldwide.
Crossrail Place picked up the award for Best Urban Regeneration Project at this year's Mipim awards, celebrating the end of a hard week of boozing and schmoozing with real estate big-guns in the south of France.
Designed by architect Foster & Partners, the seven-storey structure soon to house Canary Wharf's Crossrail station is one of the few places in the financial district where workers can go for a stroll in the park without venturing into the outside world.
The top storey houses a tropical garden designed by landscape architect Gillespies, which contains walkways, seating and an amphitheatre for free public use.
Crossrail Place was the only London-based structure to pick up a gong at the awards ceremony, singled out for its unique botanical garden by a panel of judges including Cushman & Wakefield chief John Forrester, RICS president Martin Bruhl and Moscow's chief architect Sergey Kuznetsov.
