Eurotunnel smashes traffic record as it posts revenue growth
Channel Tunnel operator Eurotunnel has reported a new traffic record in the fourth quarter.
The company reported record traffic for truck shuttles as 410,729 trucks had been carried in the three months, an increase of 10 per cent.

"In the first quarter of 2016, the Eurotunnel Group has once again demonstrated its capacity to generate growth no matter what the macro-economic environment or the value of the pound. We confirm our confidence in achieving our 2020 strategic plan," said Jacque Gounon, chairman and chief executive.
There had also been a significant increase in shuttle revenue, which rose 13 per cent to €135.5m (£106.6m), while total revenue rose four per cent to €279.9m.
It was also the best first quarter for Le Shuttle for 15 years, with more than half a million cars transported between January and the end of March.

However, Eurostar traffic dipped to 2.2m in the quarter. It was reported in March that the train operator saw a sharp drop in passenger numbers int he aftermath of the Paris terror attacks last November.
In February Eurotunnel appointed former French soldier Dominique Schmitlin to head its security due to the migrant crisis.
