Zac Goldsmith did a live webchat with Mumsnet, and was likened to Jilly Cooper’s Rupert Campbell-Black
London mothers finally got what they really wanted today when Tory mayoral hopeful Zac Goldsmith popped into Mumsnet HQ in Highgate for his biscuit-based webchat.
Labour rival Sadiq Khan took on the city's mums earlier this week, while the website entertained MP and army veteran Dan Jarvis on Tuesday after Goldsmith had to postpone his own live Q&A, which was originally meant to take place that morning.
Voters have been quick to scrutinise every detail of Goldsmith's campaign, and the mothers didn't mince their words. Questions submitted ahead of the live-chat asked him whether he was storing his wealth in offshore tax havens, and why he told Grazia he isn't a feminist.
Keen to resolve the feminist issue around his campaign, Goldsmith told Mumsnet: "I was asked if I have called myself a feminist, to which the answer is no. But anyone who wants a fair society as I do, is by extension, a feminist".
Well, that's all cleared up then…

Equality issues aside, the mums seem to have a thing for Richmond's Prince Charming. One user likened the blue-blooded hopeful to Rupert Campbell-Black, a fictional character in the Rutshire Chronicles series of romance novels written by Jilly Cooper.
Goldsmith seemed pretty pleased about that one.
They don't call him Prince Charming for nothing.
Oddly, this seemed to be the first time Mumsnet users failed to ask an MP what their favourite type of biscuit is, but fortunately Goldsmith was forthcoming on the issue, and gave the most middle class answer he could muster:
"For the record my favourite biscuit is normally a chocolate digestive, although I am eating a lot of Pret cookies in this marathon campaign."
So now we know.
