Trade groups call for taskforce to safeguard UK’s Brexit negotiations
Business groups are mounting pressure on the government to take action following the UK’s vote to quit the European Union.
The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has called for the creation of a business taskforce to “ensure business priority issues form a key part of both domestic policy and EU exit negotiations”.
The proposals were made in an open letter to the government published today from the head of the BCC calling for stability and clarity.

“The business communities we represent are understandably disappointed that Westminster has descended into a deep political post-mortem – rather than work to secure the best possible outcome from the negotiation and transition that lie ahead,” wrote Adam Marshall, BCC acting director general.
Earlier this week business leaders voiced concerns over the government’s apparent lack of contingency plans for a Brexit vote following a meeting with business secretary Sajid Javid.
Carolyn Fairbairn, the head of the Confederation of British Industry said: “No one is coming out of these meetings feeling great.”
