The publisher of the Daily Mail has distanced itself from any bids involving Yahoo.

Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) emerged as a surprise candidate in the race for Yahoo’s web business in April.

The company later said it had not submitted a bid for Yahoo, but added that it “remains in discussions with parties who may potentially be interested”.

However, DMGT’s finance director Stephen Daintith has told Morning Wire: “DMGT is not engaged at all in any of those Yahoo talks.”

Asked whether he would rule out DMGT becoming involved in any of the bids in the future, Daintith said the scenario was “hypothetical”.

He added: “As it stands, we’re not engaged in any conversations on making a bid for Yahoo.”

It is being reported in the US this week that there are five parties involved in the final round of bidding for Yahoo’s core business. Verizon is said to be the frontrunner.
