Sigh. Yes, the Treasury has a cat too

Morning Wire prides itself on reporting the most important financial news as soon as it happens. No matter how small the story, we make sure you are up to date with everything going on in the financial sector.

And so, it is with a deep and shuddering sigh we bring you the news that, like 10 Downing Street, the Treasury has a cat.

It's called Gladstone. It is there to catch mice.

Again, with gusto: sigh.

It seems that, after all the attention Larry at Number 10 got following David Cameron's resignation (he left Larry at No.10. Some saw it as cruel abandonment. Cameron insisted No.10 was where Larry belonged), the Treasury has got in on the cat action, adopting its own moggie mascot.

Gladstone (presumably named after William Gladstone) was adopted from Battersea Cats & Dogs home to see off mice at HM Treasury.

He has his own Instagram account, and has already had a Buzzfeed photoshoot. That puts him pretty high up on the feline fame scale, although still below Grumpy Cat.

Its first Instagram post showed a hint of cat rivalry (yes, the Treasury called it "cattitude").

"The humans had to keep me in this cage in case I ran down the street and tormented some other mouser called “Larry”. Personally, I’ve never heard of him," it said. Claws out already, eh?
