Manchester City and Manchester United account for nearly 40 per cent of all Premier League transfer spend following Claudio Bravo arrival
Manchester has accounted for well over a third of all Premier League transfer expenditure this summer as City and United have engaged in a transfer arms race for their new managers.
With Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho taking the reins at the Etihad Stadium and Old Trafford respectively, the two clubs have spent more money than ever before and currently top the league's spending charts.
City's capture of Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo for £17m takes their spending to £183m, according to figures from transfermarkt.co.uk, while Manchester United have splashed out £157m including a world record £89m on Paul Pogba.

Put together that takes their spending to £340m, or 36.9 per cent of the division's entire outlay so far this summer which has already reached record levels with a week of the transfer window still remaining.

United have spent more on less, paying an average of £39.3m for Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who arrived on a free transfer.
City, in contrast, have signed nine players at an average of £19.3m.
