George Osborne has vowed to protect his flagship Northern Powerhouse policy, just a day after Morning Wire revealed he would launch a think tank dedicated to the project
Morning Wire reported the former chancellor's plans on Tuesday, just hours after David Cameron announced plans to leave parliament all together.
And speaking to The Sun, Osborne vowed to protect the project, a flagship policy from his time at the Treasury.
“I care passionately about the north of England and will be setting out my plans to support the Northern Powerhouse in the near future,” he said.
Osborne is understood to be committed to remaining on the backbenches, yesterday stating that he would be saddened not to be joined by Cameron “over the coming years”.

The think tank drive comes after doubts have emerged over Theresa May's commitment to the plans for infrastructure investment and devolution in Northern cities.
The new Prime Minister has preferred a broader nationwide industrial strategy to Osborne's regional focus.
