Prime Minister Theresa May will meet with the leaders of the devolved parliaments of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Monday and spell out her vision for a "grown up" relationship between the administrations.

Meeting for the first time since December 2014, May will ask the joint ministerial committee (JMC) to fully commit to working together to enhance the prosperity and security of the UK. She will seek a relationship that is built on a basis of “cooperation and consensus”.

“When I stood upon the steps of Downing Street I made clear the importance of our great Union.

“I want Monday’s meeting to be the start of a new grown up relationship between the devolved administrations and the UK government – one in which we all work together to forge the future for everyone in the United Kingdom,” said May.

The Prime Minister also plans to engage with Nicola Sturgeon, Carwyn Jones, Arlene Foster and Martin McGuinness over how each of the devolved powers can work together to get the best deal from Britain's exit from the EU.

"As we move into this new chapter, we must seize the opportunities ahead, as we will achieve far more together than we could ever do apart," she said.

A number of key administrative changes to the JMC will be proposed including a commitment to meet at least once every 12 months and to produce an annual report on work and priorities. Also on the cards is a break with tradition that will mean the JMC is hosted by each of the four administrations on a revolving basis.
