US Presidential election 2016: Politicians around the world react to Donald Trump victory
Politicians around the world have been reacting this morning to news that Donald Trump has been elected the 45th President of the United States.
Trump surged past rival Hillary Clinton to take 276 electoral college votes, against Clinton's 218.
In his victory speech, the property tycoon and former US Apprentice presenter said: "I want to tell the world community that while we will always put America's interests first, we will deal fairly with everyone, with everyone."
This is how global leaders have reacted to Trump's win:
European Union
Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament, said he hoped for a "rational co-operation" with Trump.
Meanwhile, EU chiefs Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker wrote to Trump offering congratulations and extending an invitation for the President-elect to visit Europe at his "earliest convenience". Tusk and Juncker also said that "only by co-operating closely can the EU and the US continue to make a difference when dealing with unprecedented challenges" – such as Islamic State, the crisis in Ukraine, and climate change, among other things.

Russia
Vladimir Putin has sent a telegram to Trump saying dialogue between Moscow and Washington will serve the interests of both countries.
"Putin expressed hope for joint work to restore Russian-American relations from their state of crisis, and also to address pressing international issues and search for effective responses to challenges concerning global security," the Kremlin said in a statement.
Germany
Chancellor Angela Merkel made an offer of "close co-operation" to Trump.
The Germany justice minister, Heiko Maas, tweeted "The world won't end but it will get crazier", in response to the US election result.
Canada
President Justin Trudeau has offered his congratulations to Trump. He said:
“Canada has no closer friend, partner and ally than the United States. We look forward to working very closely with President-elect Trump, his administration, and with the United States Congress in the years ahead, including on issues such as trade, investment, and international peace and security.
“The relationship between our two countries serves as a model for the world. Our shared values, deep cultural ties, and strong integrated economies will continue to provide the basis for advancing our strong and prosperous partnership.”
"There's going to be a need for Canada to reaffirm the issues that are important to Canadians, to our businesses, to travelers and to our place in the world and that's exactly what I'm going to do."
Egypt
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said he hoped Trump's election would unleash a new era of closer ties with Washington.
"The Egyptian Arab Republic is looking forward to the period of Donald Trump's presidency to imbue new spirit into the path of Egyptian-American ties with more co-operation and coordination in the interests of both the Egyptian and American people," he said in a statement.
Malaysia
Prime Minister Najib Razak said of Trump and his win: "His appeal to Americans who have been left behind – those who want to see their government more focused on their interests and welfare, and less embroiled in foreign interventions that proved to be against US interests – have won Mr Trump the White House."
Hungary
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban congratulated Trump on his election victory, with a Facebook status saying: "What a great news. Democracy is still alive."
Philippines
President Rodrigo Duterte offered "warm congratulations" to Trump and said he "looks forward to working with the incoming administration for enhanced Philippines-US relations anchored on mutual respect, mutual benefit and shared commitment to democratic ideals and the rule of law".
