Hillary Clinton says Americans have a role to play in holding Donald Trump to account
Defeated Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton finally broke her silence this afternoon and urged Americans to give Donald Trump a chance to lead.
Speaking to supporters at a New York hotel, she described the pain of losing and stressed the role that the public had to play in promoting multi-faceted tolerance.
“We must accept this result and then look to the future… Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him a chance to lead,” she said.

Clinton did not address her followers in the immediate aftermath of the result earlier in the day, leaving her already wounded supporters even more disappointed.
She expressed her hope that Donald Trump would be a “successful president for all Americans”.
Reflecting on her loss in a campaign that she referred to as “unruly”, Clinton concluded:
“We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought.”

However, she urged Americans to hold President-Elect Trump to account.
“Our constitutional democracy demands our participation, not just every four years, but all the time.
We believe that the American dream is big enough for everyone. For people of all races and religions. And women and immigrants. For LGBT people and people with disabilities. For everyone,”
“Our responsibility as is citizens is to keep doing our part,” she said.
