HMV to reopen Glasgow Braehead store as new owner ramps up negotiations with landlords

HMV is to repoen its fourth store earmarked for closure, as new owner Doug Putman continues his run of rental renegotiations with high street landlords. 

The music chain's Glasgow Braehead is set to open up its doors this morning after a week of being closed, Morning Wire has learned.

Putman has struck a deal with the outlet's landlord, Intu, after saving three other HMV stores earlier this week by reaching an agreement with landlords. 

HMV’s iconic Fopp Glasgow Byres and Bath stores have both resumed service after several days of being closed, as well as one of the retailer’s flagship outlets in Bluewater also reopened its doors after the Canadian entrepreneur renegotiated the terms of the store’s lease.

Putman’s discussions with individual landlords to reduce rents comes a week after the owner of Sunrise Records stepped in to save 100 of the struggling high street chain’s stores.

However, plans for 27 store closures were announced as part of the acquisition, and Putman told the BBC that the closures come after continued rent rises.
