Meal kit firm Hello Fresh today posted a surge in its full-year and fourth quarter sales as it eyes plans to break even in 2019.

Revenues for the full year soared 41.4 per cent to €1.2bn (£1.03bn).

Losses before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation narrowed from €70.1m to €54.5m.

Why it’s interesting

Hello Fresh, which delivers ready-made weekly meal kits to customers, saw a huge rise in revenues in 2018, its most successful year since it was founded in 2011.

This was boosted by a strong fourth quarter, which saw sales jump 43.1 per cent.

The Berlin-based company said it forecasts revenue growth of between 25 and 30 per cent for 2019, a slowdown from 2018, but expects to break even at some point this year.

What Hello Fresh said

Chief executive and co-founder Dominik Richter said: “2018 was our most successful year to date, in which we meaningfully expanded our customer offering in terms of meal types, choice and price and assumed market leadership in every single market.

“We're really proud to have made such strong progress on our mission to make Hello Fresh accessible to a rapidly increasing number of people and improve the way they eat.”
