On this day: USA Dream Team take basketball gold at Barcelona Olympics
It was 22 years ago that the USA’s Dream Team took Olympic gold in Barcelona, the first time NBA superstars such as Michael Jordan and Earvin “Magic” Johnson had been allowed to compete.
The 117-85 scoreline in the final against Croatia was the narrowest margin of their eight wins. Jordan, now 51, is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time and was recently declared the NBA’s first billionaire, thanks in part to Nike’s Air Jordan range of footwear.
