AA drives into connected car tech with joint venture Intelematics Europe
The AA has sealed a joint venture to develop connected car services which could improve roadside assistance services and even lower motorists' car insurance.
The London-listed company today announced the launch of Intelematics Europe, a joint venture co-owned by the AA, two other European roadside assistant clubs and Intelematics.
The move marks another step into the connected car sector, which uses technology to enable a car to utilise other devices both inside and outside of the vehicle.
Last month, the AA revealed plans to develop a new fleet management system which will enable individual vehicle data to be tracked, including fuel consumption, driver behaviour and routes taken.

"Connectivity will improve both timing and diagnostics of the AA's roadside assistance services and enable us to increase efficiency," Bob Mackenzie, executive chairman of the AA, said.
"We also value the potential for greater integration with our manufacturer partners and, combined with what we are doing with fleets through Trakm8, connected-car capability will enhance our already strong position across our business partnerships."
