Adebayor not ready to return
MANCHESTER City striker Emmanuel Adebayor admits he has been unable to eat as he struggles to come to terms with the machine gun attack on him and his Togo team-mates.
Adebayor’s press officer was one of three men killed in the ambush on the Togo team bus as they travelled to the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola on Friday.
The attempted massacre prompted Togo to withdraw from the tournament, and former Arsenal star Adebayor has no plans to return to England soon.
“If it meant going back tomorrow, I wouldn’t be capable of giving everything that I’ve got,” he said. “At the moment, I’m just sweating every day and every day that God made. I can’t even eat, I’m losing weight. It is very difficult for everyone.
“It is difficult because my personal press officer died in my hands. That is the worst image I have had in my life. He passed away in my hands. It is very difficult.”
City manager Roberto Mancini has told his player to take as long as he needs to recover from the traumatic episode.
“I will take time and I will come back on the pitch at the right time, and I think my boss and my team understand that is the most important thing,” he added. “They know I need time to recover from this, and at the moment I am just staying home with all my [Togo] team-mates.
