Airbnb make global ‘house party’ ban permanent
Airbnb confirmed this morning that its party ban for hosts and guests would be a permanent fixture for holiday goers.
The firm said that disruptive parties and events will continue to be banned, including open-invite gatherings, as well as “chronic party houses”: scuppering fun for many party animals across the country.
The property rental platform announced a global Covid-induced block back in August 2020, placing a 16-person occupancy cap for stays.
While at the time, the firm said this was in “the best interest of public health”, Airbnb have since said these restrictions have become the “bedrock community policy to support our Hosts and their neighbours”.
The US firm will enforce the indefinite rules through either account suspension, or full user removal from the platform for non-compliance.
In 2019, the firm tightened measures to stop “open-invite” parties and launched Neighbourhood Support Line for locals to report nuisances.
Over 6,600 guests were suspended globally ast year by Airbnb for attempting to violate this ban.
However, Airbnb said there had been a 63 per cent drop in party reports in the UK since it introduced the ban.
General Manager for Northern Europe Amanda Cupples said the fresh rules “makes clear that there is no place for disruptive parties on Airbnb”
