All Brexit options on the table, Tory party chair says
The chair of the Conservative party Brandon Lewis said today that all Brexit options were still in play, following the third parliamentary defeat of Prime Minister Theresa May’s deal yesterday.
Speaking to the BBC, Lewis said: “We’ve got to look at what we can do next and we have to do something different.”
He added: “Parliament will continue this process on Monday and we’ve got to look at all the options.”
A second round of indicative votes is expected on Monday with MPs able to submit their options to speaker John Bercow who will then select the options to be debated and voted on.
In the last round of indicative votes on Wednesday, none of the eight options put forward was able to command a majority of MPs.
May is reportedly considering putting her deal to parliament a fourth time after the margin of defeat fell to 58 yesterday.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called on May to step down and hold a general election.
“If the prime minister can’t accept that, then she must go, not at an indeterminate date in the future, but now, so that we can decide the future of this country through a general election,” he said.
