American Express announced a partnership with golf course St Andrews

American Express this morning announced a partnership with iconic golf course St Andrews as the credit card behemoth expanded its sports portfolio further.

The St Andrews Links will now be inter a sports sponsorship umbrella with the likes of NFL, Formula 1, Wimbledon, and Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion.

The deal will give Amex holders access to tee times on the iconic Old Course but the financial services firm insists this will not impact locals and their access to St Andrews.

Packages for fans will be available from 2027, when the so-called home of golf hosts the 155th Open Championship.

“Golf and premium travel continue to be passions of our card members globally, and there are few places in the world more legendary than St Andrews,” said Shiz Suzuki of American Express.

“We’re proud of this first-of-its-kind partnership with St Andrews Links Trust to provide the meaningful access American Express is known for, and to create new ways for eligible members to not only experience this historic destination, but also to play at the home of golf.”

American Express members get perks

American Express replaced long-standing NFL partner Visa ahead of the recent American football season, while the firm is already in golf with the US Open and as a title sponsor of a PGA Tour event held annually in California.

But it’s most recognisable deal this side of the pond is with Brighton and Hove Albion, where the firm is front-of-shirt sponsor and holder of the Premier League club’s stadium naming rights.

“St Andrews Links has welcomed golfers from around the world for generations, and we are continually looking for ways to enhance the visitor experience and connect with new audiences internationally,” said St Andrews Links Trust commercial director James Ralley.

“We are delighted to work with American Express on this unique partnership that will help introduce more golfers to St Andrews Links and support more investment into the Home of Golf.”
