If you prefer heights to the underground world and are in or near Malaga province, then the Caminitodel Rey should definitely be on your list of things to do. The name means The King’s Walkway, and it was originally opened by King Alfonso XIII in 1921 as a service path between El Gaitanejo dam and the hydro-electric plant at El Chorro. It fell into disrepair and was closed for years, but has now been restored and reopened as a very popular tourist attraction. It is nearly eight kilometres long in total, with a dizzying stretch which is 100 metres high and crosses the Desfiladero de losGaitanes gorge. This is afantastic experience, which will never be forgotten.
