Anderson ready to fight for his place
ENGLAND fast bowler James Anderson admits he faces a fight to regain his place in the side following his miserable showing in last month’s World Cup.
Anderson went to the subcontinent rated among the world’s premier seam bowlers following his Ashes winning exploits earlier in the winter.
But a series of disappointing performances, particularly against Ireland and Bangladesh, saw him lose his place for the quarter-final against Sri Lanka and he knows he can’t take his selection for granted ahead of next month’s series against the same opponents.
“I couldn’t argue when I was left out. I hadn’t done anything to keep my place, I wasn’t bowling well,” Anderson said. “I found it tough and in a competition like the World Cup, if you are not on top of your game you get found out.
“My body just wasn’t working as well as it should have been. I felt quite fatigued, although mentally I felt fresh.
“I now have work to do to get back in the one-day side, that’s for sure. I want to play for England as much as I can.”
