Andy Murray set to skip Great Britain’s Davis Cup quarter-final against Serbia
Britain's Davis Cup hero Andy Murray has indicated that he is set to withdraw from the team to face Serbia this week following his Wimbledon triumph.
Murray was named in a provisional five-man squad last week, alongside his elder brother Jamie, Dan Evans, Kyle Edmund and Dominic Inglot, but said on Monday that he was “unlikely” to play in Belgrade after all.
The world No2 added that if he missed a first Davis Cup tie since April 2013 that he may travel with the team and Great Britain captain Leon Smith to support them.

“Even if I don’t play, I’m still probably going to go anyway just to be there with the team,” he added.
Serbia will be without world No1 Novak Djokovic for this week’s tie, which starts on Friday and will be played on clay.
Murray’s second Wimbledon title, achieved on Sunday with a straight-sets win over Milos Raonic, continued a busy summer for the Scot, who also won the Aegon Championship at Queen’s Club and reached the final of the French Open.
His next target is to defend his men’s singles title and win the men’s doubles alongside Jamie at the Rio Olympics, which starts next month. The US Open, where her won his first grand slam in 2012, follows later in August.
Murray ended Britain’s 79-year wait for Davis Cup success when he led the team to victory over Belgium in the final in Ghent in November.
