Apple iOS 9 release: Here’s how to download the latest update to the iPhone and iPad operating system – and why it isn’t working for some
It’s update time for iPhone users: iOS 9 is here.
Apple released the latest version of the operating system running on iPhones and iPads at 6pm UK time – and you should get a friendly phone reminder from Apple when it's ready to download. As always, servers are overheating as every single iPhone user worldwide scramble to get the update, causing download issues for some users.
iPhone users across Twitter are reporting getting error messages as they attempt to download the update.

Since many others have reported successful installations, this seems sure to be a case of overly busy servers rather than an actual bug with the system. Most likely, the best solution to the issue is to simply wait it out and let Apple's servers cool off.
To get the update currently being rolled out to all eligible devices, either plug your phone or tablet into iTunes, or update it wirelessly via the settings app.
Because of the huge demand for iOS 9, it may take a few minutes before you actually see the update right around launch time, and actually getting the download working could take another couple of hours.
Before doing anything, back up your device to avoid tears at the end. Again, do this either over iTunes or get your iCloud backup up to speed.
Then join the queue: To keep downloads ticking smoothly Apple has a queue system in place. Go to “settings”, then “general”, and then “software update”, and make sure it says “update requested”.
The latest version of the operating system promises Apple users better battery life, smarter Siri and a split screen function.
