Apple iOS versus Google Play Store: Here’s the winner in each country according to downloads and revenue in 2015
In the ongoing battle of Apple versus Google, there's a surprising winner across the world – both of them.
More people are downloading apps from Google's Play Store than Apple in most major countries.
Only three of the top 20 countries – Britain, Canada and Japan – buck this trend, with iOS more popular than Google Play in 2015.
However, when it comes to how much money each of the tech companies are making, it's Apple racing ahead.
Just Germany, South Korea and Taiwan buck that trend, where Google Play is raking in the most cash.
The figures, shared exclusively with Morning Wire by app analytics firm App Annie ahead of the publication of its 2015 review report later today, demonstrates the growing divide between the two companies.
Google's lower barrier to entry with cheaper handsets running Android and the Play Store (and made by more companies) mean it's more popular in most countries and particularly in emerging markets.
Conversely, the Apple customer is wealthier and more likely to fork out for apps.
The new report will reveal exactly how those numbers compare and where each gained over their rival over the past year.
