Tech giant Apple's eponymous mobile payment service, Apple Pay, is reportedly coming to China in early February, further capitalising on the boom in mobile and contactless payments among consumers.

The company has agreed deals recently with China's big four state-run banks, according to a report by the WSJ. It didn't say how much Apple would charge for purchases made through Apple Pay.

The deals will enable Apple Pay users who are based in China to link the service to their local bank accounts, nevertheless it could face a number of regulatory hurdles.

Apple Pay's main competitor would be Alipay, the online payment platform run by Chinese tech titan Alibaba, and chat app WeChat which is owned by Tencent Holdings.

Apple launched Apple Pay in the United States in October last year, and it was later rolled out to Canada, Australia as well as the UK.
