Apple pledges to repair iPhone and MacBook models with faulty screens and hard drives

Apple has said it will service some products for free after discovering faults in iPhone X and MacBook Pro models.

The company said the touch screen on some iPhone X devices will intermittently not respond to a user’s touch, or even react despite not being touched.

The California-based producer said a part in the display was faulty on some models.

It has promised to replace the phone’s display module free of charge.for customers who have been affected by the issues.

The company also it would service hard drives on some 13-inch MacBook Pro models.

Hard drives on models without a touch bar, sold between June 2017 and June 2018, had failed or erased data.

Apple said it would service the models, and restore them to factory settings, warning customers to back up their data.

However, files which have already been lost will not be recovered, it said, but it may refund users who have already paid to have the problems fixed.

This is the latest in a string of issues which Apple has been forced to remedy.

Last year the company started a massive programme to replace batteries on some iPhone models after admitting a software update slowed down the performance of some phones with aging batteries.

In June it promised to replace keyboards on some MacBook and MacBook Pro models after they generated complaints on social media.
