Apple taps US design tech Ember to track caffeine intake as it launches in the UK

NULL

Design tech firm Ember has launched with Apple to monitor caffeine consumption inside the Health app using its smart mug, as the company arrives in the UK as part of its international expansion drive.

Ember, the maker of a ceramic mug which uses heat control technology to keep drinks at a desired temperature, will now appear as part of an integration with the iOS Health app so users can track their caffeine intake and how it affects their heart rate and sleep patterns.

The US-based company, whose products were designed by former Apple design director Robert Brunner, has also today launched its product internationally into Selfridges and Apple stores in the UK.

"I am extremely excited to be bringing Ember’s ceramic mug to the UK as part of this global launch," said Ember founder and chief executive Clay Alexander.

"Our integration with Apple Health is a pivotal moment for Ember, as we help our customers to track caffeine consumption."

"Temperature is a major factor with taste, and our mission is to help people discover that connection – bringing a new dimension to the tea and coffee industries."

The UK became a primary market for Ember after a soft launch of its product in Selfridges and other European department stores over the last few weeks revealed the UK was the fastest-moving destination for its product.

Ember recently closed a series D investment round, raising a total of $46.3m to date entirely from private investors. Its backers include a long list of celebrity names, such as singer Demi Lovato, Rocnation CEO Jay Brown and musicians Nick and Joe Jonas.
