Apple’s iPhone 6 to begin production next week ahead of possible September UK release date
Apple's new iPhone looks set to begin production next month, with Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd manufacturing the majority of the new handsets.
The widely anticipated iPhone 6 is expected to come in two sizes, one with a 4.7-inch screen and another at 5.5 inches.
According to Taiwan's Economic Daily News, which did not cite sources, production of the 4.7-inch model will begin in the third week of July while the 5.5 inch version will begin rolling off the conveyor belt in the second week of August.
Another article, this time by a state-run Chinese title, reported yesterday that Hon Hai will be hiring 100,000 workers to handle demand for the gadget.
The UK release date for the new iPhone is as yet unconfirmed but is expected to be sometime in September, when Apple traditionally launches its handsets. It is unknown if both screen sizes will be released at the same time.
The device is rumoured to have radically improved specifications including a better camera, wireless charging and improved battery life. Apple is also known to be designing the new iPhone to be a personal fitness tool.
