Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham handed shot at revenge after being handed European rematches against Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Fiorentina
Arsenal and Chelsea face familiar foes in the Champions League after they were once again drawn against their European nemeses Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Manchester City were dealt a kinder hand in the last 16, in the form of a tie with Dynamo Kiev, the away leg of which will be played behind closed doors because the Ukrainian club are serving a stadium ban.
Tottenham, like their London rivals, are set to meet opponents who have eliminated them in recent seasons after they drew Fiorentina in the Europa League last 32 for the second year running.
Struggling Manchester United are due to play Danish champions FC Midtjylland in the same competition, while Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp faces a return to Germany when the Reds play Augsburg.
Arsenal’s draw against the holders is their third tie with Barcelona in seven seasons, having lost to the Catalans 4-3 on aggregate at the same stage in 2011 and 6-3 in the quarter-finals a year earlier.
The Gunners were also beaten by Barca in the 2006 final, and have registered just one win against them in their seven meetings.
Chelsea’s clash with PSG is a repeat of last season’s tie in the first knockout round, in which the French champions progressed on away goals after it ended 3-3 on aggregate.
That represented revenge for PSG, who had been knocked out on away goals in the quarter-finals during the previous campaign by the Blues.
Spurs will be looking to make amends against Fiorentina, after the Italian team ended their Europa League challenge last season with a 2-0 win at White Hart Lane that sealed a 3-1 aggregate victory.
