Khan eyes Mayweather after despatching Judah
AMBITIOUS Amir Khan has set his sights on challenging pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather within a year following his emphatic WBA light-welterweight title defence.
Khan knocked out American veteran Zab Judah in five rounds in their unification fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night, a performance that added to the Bolton 24-year-old’s burgeoning reputation.
His next bout is expected to be against Mexican Erik Morales or WBC and WBO champion Tim Bradley, but beyond that he is targeting a glittering showdown with Mayweather, one of the sport’s all-time greats.
“My aim is to move up the pound-for-pound rankings and to one day be pound-for-pound champion,” said Khan. “The Mayweather fight is something I’m looking at for the future and it would be huge for me. It would drive me on.”
Unbeaten Mayweather is set to take on Victor Ortiz in September and last week hinted he might be willing to fight in Britain.
