Augsburg 0, Liverpool 0: Klopp demands more from Reds after dour draw on return home
Inpatient Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refused to conceal his frustration at his side’s failure to beat relegation-threatened Bundesliga outfit Augsburg on his return to Germany in last night’s Europa League last-32 first leg.
Striker Daniel Sturridge wasted Liverpool’s best effort on goal in a largely dour contest, while former Sunderland striker Ji Dong-won flirted with winning it for Augsburg with a shot which struck the post.
“We should be realistic about the result, that’s okay in a European away game,” said Klopp. “We could have scored goals but as a performance I am not satisfied.
“I’m not 100 per cent happy. My problem is that, with our quality, we should have had more. I have to be patient, but I’m not a patient man, not really. My feeling is we could have done better.”
Despite Klopp’s annoyance, Liverpool did become the first team to keep a clean sheet against Augsburg, who reached the German top flight for the first time in 2011, in this season’s Europa League.
