A Bajan palace with Bali twist

A BAJAN dream house – complete with home cinema, gym and several pavilions – would really be something to show your friends. Well – providing you have the dough ($27m) – your showstopper has arrived, in the form of Alang Alang Bay on the beachfront of St James (45 minutes from the airport), for sale for the first time six years after completion.

This is, quite simply, a stunning property, designed by award-winning Australian architects Grounds Kent. Breathtaking views of the sea go without saying: add in a 25m infinity pool, another pool (currently filled with baby sharks, if you please), a waterfall, home cinema, gym, two guest suites and a separate self-contained two bedroom apartment and you start to get the picture.

It’s all in the best of taste, too – just blingy enough to show you’ve got life sorted and then some, but with enough Eastern influence to give it a spa-like, relaxing atmosphere. A series of pavilions are joined together by teak walkways and separated by Koi-filled ponds. Entrance to the five-bedroom house is via a vast reclaimed Balinese double-height door. The enormous living pavilion has a wantalon roof which creates air movement – coconut wood columns and coral stone walls compliment more traditional Caribbean architecture.

The richness of the furnishing extends to the beautiful bar, full of handmade fabrics and French pieces of art, all put together by French designer Carolyn Quatermaine. Desire romantic seclusion? Perhaps you’d like to eat dinner on the pavilion that sits at the top of the infinity pool.
