‘Bake Off’ winner and publican calls on Downing Street to cut beer tax
Former Great British Bake Off Winner Candice Brown today delivered a petition signed by more than 200,000 Brits to 10 Downing Street calling for a cut in beer duty in the next Budget.
Brown, who now runs The Green Man pub in Eversholt, Bedfordshire, was joined by publicans from across the country to deliver the petition as part of the ‘Long Live The Local’ campaign.

Organisers claim that three pubs a day are closing every day in the UK.
The reality TV star said: “Pubs need support from the government to survive and today we implore the Chancellor to cut beer duty to help keep pubs open and prevent communities from shouldering the social and cultural cost of losing them.”
The call comes amid ongoing confusion over the date of the Budget, which had been scheduled for November 6th.
Yesterday Number 10 sources suggested the Budget would be pushed back if no Brexit deal, as is expected, is achieved by the end of October. However last night the Chancellor told ITV’s Robert Peston that the plan for an early November budget remained in place.
A Treasury spokesperson told Morning Wire: All decisions on taxation and spending are taken at the annual Budget, which the Chancellor has announced will take place this year on the 6 November.
