FORMER England captain David Beckham has ruled out a coaching role with Team GB at the London Olympics, insisting he is still in good enough shape to play.

Beckham, who turns 37 next summer, underlined his appetite to participate during a visit to Canary Wharf yesterday.

“Once the manager has been picked and once the team is announced, I would love to be part of that,” said the midfielder.

“I’m an East End lad and being English born and bred, it would be something I’d be very honoured to be part of.”

The former Manchester United

star is in the final year of his contract with LA Galaxy but is not ready to hang up his boots and move to the dugout.

“I’m sure I’d be better as a player than a coach. I’d much rather play,” added Beckham, who was launching electronic giant Samsung’s London 2012 campaign.

“I still feel like I’m 21 when I play. I’m still fit, everyone knows I’ve looked after myself, eating-wise and fitness-wise. I’m not in bad shape and I’ll continue to work hard and hopefully I’ll be part of it.”
