Beckham eyes English return to fulfil dream
DAVID BECKHAM has hinted he could make a return to the Premier League in order to fulfil his World Cup dream.
The 34-year-old is still half way through a five-year contract with LA Galaxy but could be available on a loan deal when the Major League Soccer season finishes in March.
Beckham enjoyed a successful five-month loan spell at AC Milan last season – a move which helped resurrect his England career.
Now, he is hoping to complete a similar deal this year in order to maintain a high level of fitness to contend for a place in Fabio Capello’s England squad for the next summer’s World Cup in South Africa.
Milan are keen to recruit him again, but Beckham admits that he is also considering interest from Premier League clubs looking to bring the former Manchester United midfielder back to England.
“Everyone knows I will be planning to come back to Europe,” Beckham said ahead of England’s crucial World Cup qualifier with Croatia at Wembley tomorrow night.
Asked whether that would be in England he said: “I don’t know, there are a few options, put it that way.”
He explained: “I have had an incredible career so far. But if we reach another World Cup and I play some part, it will be up there with all the other achievements I’ve had in my career.”
One more win will be enough to see Capello’s men qualify for South Africa, but Beckham insists England must not be motivated by revenge tomorrow night when Croatia visit for the first time since knocking England out of the Euro 2008 qualifiers.
“Wednesday is not about revenge or putting bad memories to rest. Our objective is to reach the World Cup.”
