Beckham seals ACMilan loan switch
FORMER England captain David Beckham has boosted his World Cup prospects by sealing a loan return to AC Milan in January.
The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder, who needs game time during the American close season, was a big hit at the San Siro during a five-month spell in Italy last season.
And Milan announced last night that they had reached an agreement to take the 34-year-old back for another six months in the new year.
England boss Fabio Capello has told Beckham he needs to play regularly at the top level if he is to make England’s World Cup squad.
And Milan vice-president said: “We are confident his loan spell will not only improve Milan, it will help the player to take part in the World Cup in South Africa and enhance his career in North America.”
Beckham, himself, was delighted with the move, but reaffirmed his commitment to Galaxy last night saying: “I need to give myself the best chance to make the World Cup squad – playing for Milan will help me.
“I’m committed to LA Galaxy and MLS in the long term and remain as passionate as ever about growing the game of soccer in America.
“I’m completely focused on ending this season on a high note with my club by winning the MLS Cup.”
