BEST OF THE BROKERS

DATATEC
Investec said that Datatec is on track to meet its full-year guidance, but that a technicality on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange mandates an update. The broker made no changes to its forecasts but increased its target price to 210p and downgraded its recommendation to “hold”, purely on valuation grounds.

COMPASS
Evolution Securities nudged up its Compass 2009 earnings per share estimate by two per cent and increased its target price to 430p from 410p. It said that a modest decline in sales has been more than offset with cost efficiencies feeding through strongly to margins. The broker has a “buy” recommendation on the stock.

COAL OF AFRICA
Cazenove initiated coverage on Coal of Africa with an “outperform” recommendation saying that, despite the 36 per cent rise in its share price in the past month, it still believes there is potential upside. The broker notes that there are key events due in the run up to the end of the year that will see the cost of CoA’s capital falling.
