The boxer David Haye is the latest famous face to get into the venture business, investing in recruitment startup Syft.

Heavyweight Haye has joined VC firm Profounders Capital, Lord Young – David Cameron's former enterprise adviser – and other entrepreneurs, to invest seed stage cash of £2.65m in the startup.

Syft is aimed at making it easier to recruit temporary staff for events and hospitality and claims to save its clients 55 per cent on the traditional temp fees.

“Supporting British entrepreneurs is really important to me, especially those who are the driving force behind tech and growth-focused businesses," said Haye.

"I not only invested in Syft’s vision, but I also recognised the company’s work ethic and dedication to success.”

Syft founder Novo Abakare said:

"Venture Capital money from Profounders along with founders from Bebo, Gamesys, Velocity, CloudVolumes and David Cameron’s ex advisor for small business in Lord Young we feel very fortunate at such an early stage to have an amazing group. Each one of them adds significant value."

The cash will go on expanding the platform across London and product development.
