ENGLAND fast bowler Tim Bresnan has been ruled out of the upcoming three match Test series against Sri Lanka with a torn calf muscle.

It is a recurrence of the problem the Yorkshireman picked up during the one-day series in Australia, which forced him to fly home to be ready in time for the World Cup.

The first Test starts in Cardiff next Thursday, with fit again and newly appointed Twenty20 skipper Stuart Broad, who missed the last three Ashes Tests, now certain to slot straight back into the team.
