FOOTBALL: The head of Burma’s military junta considered launching a £634m takeover bid for Manchester United, according to a leaked US diplomatic cable published by whistle-blowing website Wikileaks. Than Shwe, who is commander in chief of the country’s armed forces and a United fan, was said to have been urged to make an offer by his grandson at some time prior to January 2009.
