Butterfield’s the toast as Premier sides crash out

DANNY BUTTERFIELD enjoyed the night of his life as his seven-minute hat-trick earned cash-strapped Crystal Palace a money-spinning tie with Aston Villa.
The Eagles were docked ten league points after slipping into administration last week, but Butterfield, who hadn’t scored in over a year before last night, handed his side a potential £500,000 cup windfall with a devastating second-half salvo.
And on a night of shocks, League Two Notts County stunned Premier League Wigan Athletic 2-0 at the DW Stadium to earn a fifth round trip to Fulham.
Only injury allowed Butterfield to move up-field from his usual full-back position, but he gave Palace boss Neil Warnock something to crow about with a fine display of finishing to cap a memorable night for the Eagles.
“I still can’t believe it,” Butterfield said. “I’m normally a one goal every four seasons man so to get three in one night is unbelievable.”
Similarly, Notts County enjoyed the plaudits with their famous win over Wigan, which came courtesy of a Stephen Hunt strike and a Gary Caldwell own goal in the second half.
