US BOND trader Cantor Fitzgerald has unveiled plans to create 100 jobs in its UK investment banking operations.

Chief executive Shawn Matthews said that the company is seeking to exploit the disappearance of rivals from the middle tier of the sector.

“We’re looking to build out a global footprint that’s already in place and looking at it from the investment banking standpoint,” he said.

The new jobs will be created at its London office, which already employs 150 people, and will be in institutional broking, trading and investment banking.

“In the past, there were some great firms in the middle tier that were highly-profitable. We think we are going back to that day and age,” Matthews added.
