Cardiff second-half blitz shoots down the Falcons

CARDIFF Blues boss Dai Young has urged his side not to rely on the Amlin Challenge Cup as they look to secure their place in next year’s Heineken Cup.
Young’s men ran in seven tries in a magnificent performance at Kingston Park to set up a semi-final against Wasps. Winning the competition outright would guarantee the Blues qualification for the Heineken Cup but Young wants his side to book their place by beating the Scarlets in Saturday’s Magners League clash.
“We’ve scored 88 points in the last two away games but we’re keeping our feet on the ground,” said Young. “We’ve got a huge game against the Scarlets coming up. It’s do-or-die for them and hugely important for us.”
Casey Laulala and Martyn Williams both scored first-half tries for Cardiff but the Falcons stayed in touch through Charlie Amesbury and the boot of Jimmy Gopperth. The visitors cut loose after the break, however, with prop Taufa’ao Filise going over twice and further tries from Jamie Roberts, Ceri Sweeney and Ben Blair, whose kicking saw him finish the match with 25 points.
